Govt to provide Rs 4b for CNG buses

KARACHI: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has chalked out a program to get rid of the worn out buses and replace them with 8,000 new CNG buses in the next four years.

Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil said that the federal government is offering Rs 4 billion to help the local transporters to get these buses imported at subsidized rates, during a seminar organised by the International Peace Commission (IPC) Saturday.

The CDGK has also earmarked Rs 500 million for the scheme under its current fiscal year budget and this amount would be complemented with an annual allocation of Rs 10 billion per year for the next three consecutive years, she said.

The city government is keen to improve the public transport system and this requires close coordination among all the relevant stakeholders,” said Jalil. The solid waste management scheme is being streamlined through the involvement of national and foreign investors. app
